Embracing Your Higher Self

I’d like to thank Debra Trappen and the Red Threads Collective for inspiring me to write this post. It is based on a conversation I read on her blog called, “From Hustle to Flow.” If you are called to join a community of conscious businesswomen who discuss everything from menopause to finances and everything in between, click here. I’ll be there growing right alongside you!

From Hustle to Divine Hustle: Embracing a Higher Self

It’s been a while, and so I’m taking this opportunity to reintroduce myself. I’m Laura Martin Bovard, principal at LMB Interiors, mom, wife, sister, friend, and “recovering perfectionist.” Over the years, I’ve learned to release the hustle for approval, healing the parts of me that used to seek self-worth through achievement, comparison, and caretaking. With a steady practice of self-devotion and tools that reconnect me to Source, I’m moving beyond the grind of hustle culture, surrendering instead to the nourishing grace of Divine flow.

I still have shadow days when ego slides in to hijack my joy, but I use the tools I teach to bring me back into alignment on the spiraling growth journey. And that is where you come in. I want to grow with you. Together. I am called to teach and share, to keep me on my own awakening journey as you grow and embrace transformation on yours.

True, energy-rich life flows when we reclaim our time, purpose, and connection to our higher selves. Many of us know the highs and adrenaline rush of hustle—but we also know its toll. The burnout of trying to balance all our roles, keeping up appearances, or constantly measuring ourselves against others is exhausting and unsustainable.

If you work in a field where your worth feels tied to how you perform or present yourself, you’ve likely felt the pain of living by the ego’s hustle. Beauty Makers (my name for women in creative fields who bring beauty into the world) know this one all too well. We think our worth is tied to how we look and perform… and isn’t that exhausting?!

The Dance Between Ego-Driven Hustle and Soulful Flow

Hustle has its place. The rush of achievement and recognition can be addictive and confidence-boosting—until it becomes depleting, pushing us to compete rather than create. For many of us, these ego-driven pursuits pull us further from our true gifts, leading to exhaustion and frustration as well as turning women against each other, instilling separation instead of connection and sisterhood. And I’m on a mission to change that.

Divine hustling is about bringing ease and intention to our work, trusting that our best contributions come when we’re present, tuned in, and authentically inspired. When we enter this state of flow, we’re not just checking boxes; we’re creating from a sustainable, heart-centered space. It’s about filling our own cups first—through practices like breathwork, journaling, sisterhood, and self-care rituals—so we can bring our highest selves to every part of our day. When we are full of our own good stuff, we can’t help but upride our sisters, give to our families and communities, and serve our clients from a truly aligned place of authentic beauty making.

Making the Shift: Steps to Embrace Your Divine Hustle

I invite you to use the following tools:

  • Reflect on Your Why: Ask yourself, “What’s at the heart of my work?” Are you driven by external expectations, or does your work hold deep meaning for you? Reclaiming your “why” connects you to a path that’s authentic, rather than reactive.
  • Intention Over Goals: Instead of setting goals with a “finish line” in mind, consider how you want to feel and what impact you want to create. Setting intentions lets your goals reflect your values, making the journey itself meaningful.
  • Surrender to Divine Timing: Trust that everything unfolds at the right moment. Let go of the need to control each outcome, and in the process, open yourself up to greater clarity and aligned opportunities.Sometimes the most painful catalyst moments can be our greatest teachers. Trusting in timing takes practice and surrender. Be gentle with yourself.
  • Be Present: Divine hustle thrives in the present. When you’re fully engaged, creative energy flows naturally, distractions fall away, and your work gains greater depth and ease.If you’re not feeling aligned, take a nap, do some breathwork, go for a walk in nature, do some grounding.
  • Create Space for Rest and Renewal: Flow requires intention, not idleness. Carve out time for activities that recharge and inspire you, whether through a creative project or intentional stillness. This nurturing space is where ideas and energy are reborn.

Each of these practices can help you tap into your Divine Hustler spirit, leading to a way of living and working that is intentional, fulfilling, and aligned with your highest purpose. It leads to a version of you who doesn’t chase, doesn’t over-serve or over-perform, and doesn’t try to anticipate everyone else’s needs. That’s not your job! It’s what the culture taught you.

Let’s unlearn all of it together and discover new, energy rich ways to transform. I’m here for it. Are you ready?!
